MANILA, Philippines – Clark Water, a subsidiary of Manila Water Non-East Zone arm Manila Water Philippine Ventures, recently celebrated 24 years of providing efficient and reliable water and wastewater services in the Clark Freeport Zone (CFZ) and Clark Special Economic Zone.

Clark Water traces its roots from the creation of Clark Water Corporation in 2000, tasked to rehabilitate and manage the water and wastewater facilities in the Clark Special Economic Zone, formerly known as the Clark Airport Base, since the base’s abandonment following the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991.

In 2011, Manila Water acquired 100% stake in the corporation with the approval of its regulator, Clark Development Corporation (CDC). Under the Concession Agreement, Clark Water was mandated to finance, rehabilitate, expand, operate, maintain, and manage the existing and new water and wastewater facilities to serve its customers. In 2014, the 25-year concession agreement of Clark Water with CDC was extended by another 15 years until October 1, 2040.

With the theme “Share a Plate”, Clark Water celebrated its anniversary with the children of Katutubo Village in Barangay Planas, Porac, Pampanga. The business unit has been supportive of the community on needs concerning water access, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

In the past 24 years, Clark Water has shown its commitment in meeting their service obligations, as well as supporting CFZ’s economic growth. Currently, the business unit is serving 1,187 locators in CFZ, with 100% water and wastewater coverage, compliant with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water and has successfully reduced the level of Non-revenue water (NRW) to 6%.

In support of sustainable development and the realization of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Clark Water has also ventured to renewable energy since 2019. This year, the business unit has further expanded its solar power initiatives. New installations include a 19kW system at the Yakal Warehouse within their office compound and a larger 52kW installation at Pumping Station 1, enhancing the efficiency of one of its primary water treatment facilities. These additions are anticipated to generate annual savings of around PhP 0.2 million.

Under its 2023-2040 Service Improvement Plan, Clark Water is set to spend P5.8-B for service improvement projects which includes the development of new water sources, construction of additional water treatment plants and water storage facilities, improvement and rehabilitation of its water supply and sewer network, and the retrofitting and expansion of wastewater treatment facility.
